Come out tonight for what’s definitely going to be a dope show with some great live music. Boston’s Mr. Lif & Philadelphia’s Dephonic & Writtenhouse are gonna bring Johnny Brenda’s (1201 Frankford Ave) down, and Dephonic will be debuting their new LP, Dephonition! Doors open at 8PM and cover is just $12. If you don’t feel like waiting til 8PM to get the party started, head over to the Fresh Melt Water Shop at the Piazza (1001 N. 2nd St in Philadelphia) from 6PM – 9PM for the official pre-release party with Sock the Rapper, Scanz & The Paxtons. Rarely do you get to go out & party, listen to good music, kick it with good people (like yours truly), and all the while be supporting a good cause. This Friday from 10PM – 2AM at MarBar (40th & Walnut, above Marathon Grill), you can do just that. In conjunction with World AIDS Week, Philly’s own Ethel Cee presents “Spread”, a benefit for the Philadelphia AIDS Fund, featuring local acts like the legendary Bahamadia, Hustle Simmons, TuPhace, Zap & Castro, DJs Ultraviolet & AfroDJiak, and live art done in the building by the fabulous Stacey “Flygirrl” Wilson. If that’s not enough to get you there, cover is only $10 and there are complimentary drinks from 10-11PM. Come out, have a good time, support a great cause!

Also performing tonight will be Philly-based alt-rock/funk squad Swift Technique & DJ Gnarwhale spinnin’ a little of everything from hip-hop to techno. Check it out, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Performance starts at 9:00PM, $6 cover, 21 & up only.

If you haven’t seen Writtenhouse live before, believe me… you owe it to yourself, and it’s more than worth the trip to Oxford. Great energy, classic material, thoughtful lyrics… what seems to be missing in 99% of hip-hop performances these days. Admission to the show is only $5, so go out and show the fellas some love!
